Underrated Uxbridge rises to the occasion

uxbridge accommodation

Chris Evans (the former Radio 2 DJ not the Avenger) once said no one knows where Uxbridge is. We get it. It probably isn’t the first location that springs to mind when you’re looking for accommodation in London.

But wait; the Academy Award-winning creator of James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 and Star Wars robots, John Stears, was born here. You want more? It’s the birthplace to the best-known bread makers in the country, Kingsmill. Still too hard to swallow? Read on…

Great shopping, greenery and riverside walks make Uxbridge a popular destination for extended stays or relocation. Located on the western outskirts of London, it’s just 5 miles from Heathrow and the last stop on the Piccadilly London Underground line.

Boasting two cracking retail complexes, The Pavilions and the intu shopping centre (we love its use of lowercase, but we would), there’s also a whole load of intimate and independent shops prospering in the historic Windsor Street area.

Great for business and pleasure

Stockley Park, a splendidly landscaped business park, is home to the likes of Apple (UK) Ltd, Canon, Hasbro and Toshiba, and boasts its own golf course. Elsewhere, the Grand Union Canal drifts by like a daydream to the west.

Launched this year, Santander Cycles Brunel – affectionately-dubbed ‘Brunel Bikes’ – connects six docking stations across Uxbridge town centre, Brunel University London and Hillingdon Hospital, encouraging exercise while easing your daily commute.

If you choose to stay with us, Frays Island and Mabey’s Meadow should be on your list of things to do in Uxbridge. The M25 and M40 motorways are both close by, while Gatwick Airport, also reached in under an hour, makes our Uxbridge accommodation the perfect choice.
